Migraine headaches

Hi, my mother keeps getting repeated attacks of migraine specifically when she has had less hours of sleep and exposure to sun. Her head starts pounding and she cannot do anything apart from trying to sleep and hoping for the headache to reduce. This also initiates neck pain and eventually vomiting sometimes. She takes a Dolo 650 usually when the pain becomes unbearable. Also as a part of home remedy sometimes powdered and heated clove is applied on the forehead which helps. Please suggest other ways to get faster relief from this.

Migraine Headaches are best treated by managing the triggers of the same. In your case, you have already identified the precipitating factors. It is best to avoid such triggers. Tab Dolo 650 Mg ( which is Paracetamol 650 mg) is the safest medication. In fact Paracetamol 1000 mg has been termed as the drug of choice for it's management. Another drug, Tab Naxdom, is used to abort the headaches at the initial stages itself. This drug can be given along with Pan DSR, whenever the headaches ensues. I insist on avoiding the triggers, rather than treatment of Migraine. Avoid missing meals, a good 8 hour sleep and avoiding sunlight would be the ideal thing to do. If her headaches are troubling her very frequently, I suggest you see a Neurologist, for evaluation.
