Metformin is the safest and most commonly used diabetes medication. A dose of 1000mg is normal and can go up to 2500mg a day. It has minimal side effects, mainly GI intolerance like bloating or diarrhea in some people. Otherwise, it's very safe. Follow your doctor's advice and don't worry.
