METHOTREXATE for psoriasis

Hello, I have severe psoriasis, doctor has told me that he will start METHOTREXATE medication from next month. But before that he has asked me to do HIV test and Chest Xray. I am bit worried, is this medication safe for me? Thanks Rahul Lunia
