Hi,
There are so many statements here , which means you dont just have questions.. you have actual doubts. Let me try to explain.
OCD is one of the more complex problems in the field of Psychiatry.
We have things called neuro-circuits. And in OCD multiple are malfunctioning i.e misfiring.
Yes we are way behind on being able to see clearly where the faulty mechanism lies, as these are deep seated in the brain ,but extensive research happens every single day!
Now medicines help us try to alter these mis- firing circuits, but we are limited by how fast we can go up on the dosage , and OCD has shown to need higher dosage.
OCD is an anxiety spectrum and its not just the circuitry but the rest of the brain and body reacts spontaneously- to triggers, thats where therapy plays a major role.
In short therapy and medication goes hand in hand while treating OCD.
Do bottom line. Not an eye wash.. trust me your doctor is doing everything they can but we're still working in an area we cant see.. cant measure.
Our only measurement is how much better the patient gets.
Next Steps
trust your doctor. take care
