Memory Loss Inquiry

I am writing a book and need to know whether committing a murder of a loved one would be something that could trigger a loss of those memories and if so, what parts of that memory would be gone. Would partaking of recreational drugs beforehand be forgotten as well, or would it just be the experience of killing the person that would be suppressed? About how long would it take, without any active memory exercises, (as not to implant false memories) to regain those memories?

Some recreational drugs have hallucinations effect,it may possible with the effect of medicine someone not memorise the actual incident. Drug effect varies from 12 hours to 3-4 weeks.
