Low ferritin and transferrin saturation

2026-04-17 07:45:35
I have low ferritin and low transferrin saturation (around 14%), and recently I’ve noticed that my menstrual flow has become lighter than usual. Could these low iron levels be the reason for the change in my period flow, or should I be looking at other possible causes?

Yes , and also vice versa . Increased menses can cause anemia and iron deficiency. Anemia and iron deficiency can cause decreased menses. Do an Hb level , take iron supplements ( if ferritin too low , better to take injective supplements) Take tab albendazole 400 once stat. If Hb is normal , Check for tsh and free t4( Thyroid profile ). And still if irregular menses persist , do an USG pelvis to rule out any pathology.

It is the haemoglobin,  that is important clinically and for ur well being Ferritin are the stores of body.
Next Steps
If Hemoglobin is normal, u just need to start iron rich foods to replenish body stores. also take anti - helminthic.
Health Tips
check other causes for change in flow

Low Ferritin  won't  cause reduced  period  flow. That could be something else.

Have to evaluate for thyroid, prolactin and hba1c levels Decreased ferritin levels itself might not be a reason for minimal menstrual flow Need evaluation
