In my opinion if it was a male child MCU is certainly needed for UTI as it happens in males mostly due to structural anomalies or other underlying cause . In females because of short urethra and proximity to anusUTI is common .So MCU is not needed especially in first UTI and no anomaly on ultrasound . I am ready to discuss with your doctor to understand his point of view . At present you need to prevent UTI by giving more fluids to baby , by proper washing techniques of fecal area , by detecting UTI early , by urine culture and complete appropriate treatment based upon results of culture sensitivity test .
