Hello, You need to focus on low salt which is iodised himalaya pink salt, kosher salt etc are not iodised. Iodised salt is fortified with iodine. If it is fortified with iodine then it will be mentioned on the packet. A general recommendation would be to avoid putting salt on salads, avoid chutney, sauces, pickles, papad and anything that is in packet. Always read the amount of sodium on nutrition label and added salt in ingredients list. For a personalised healthy pregnancy plan you can take direct consultation with me on practo.

It’s not just about the salt intake but your whole diet needs monitoring and working with a Nutritionist. Bring down your consumption of processed foods in case you are consuming a lot of packaged foods and eating out in restaurants also have to be restricted. Enhance the flavour of your foods by adding lemon, pepper, paprika, nutritional yeast etc. You could go for low Sodoum salts or Pottassium based salts (Tata lite has 15 percent lesser sodium) but check with your Dr when you are making these switches

Sodium should be restricted to less than 2 gm per day i.e. 5 gm of table salt or 1 tsp that too in cooking not raw. No preservatives  laden food, including cheese, pickles and papad.

Yes , you can and should use iodised salt , but strictly control your total daily sodium intake due to chronic hypertension and risk of preeclampsia Ideal limit no more than 1,500 mg of sodium per day Avoid processed foods canned , fast food . Limiting these will help you stay within your daily sodium goal Monitors blood pressure Regular monitors crucial, as is adhering to any medication your doctor prescribed for chronic hypertension Iodised salt itself safe and beneficial for its iodine content , but your underlying health conditions required strict control over your total sodium consumption
