Upto 80% of disc prolapses causing sciatica resolve in about 3 months. In some of the other cases symptoms or pain gets better. It is important to monitor your symptoms, take adequate painkillers, keep active and mobile and also use hot fomentation to help with back pain. Avoid stressing your lower back. Avoid lifting anything heavy. Avoid bending down as well. You will need proper observed physiotherapy and core strengthening exercises. If your symptoms worsen or change see a Spinal Surgeon. Hope this helps. Dr Vinu Raj Consultant Spine Surgeon MBBS MRCS FRCS(Trauma&Orth)
