A firm dark bump on the vulva that has appeared over a few days is most often a blocked hair follicle, an infected gland or a small clotted blood vessel, and less often a wart or a cyst. Colour alone does not tell them apart, and the vulva is not an area to guess at a lesion. It is a two minute examination and most causes are simple to treat once identified.
Next Steps
Please book a gynaecologist appointment this week for an examination. Keep the area clean and dry, avoid shaving or waxing there until it has been seen, and wear loose cotton underwear.
Health Tips
Do not squeeze, pick or apply any cream to it. A bump that grows rapidly, becomes very painful, or comes with fever needs to be seen the same day, as an abscess may need drainage.
