My father has been having diabetes since 2008. Now his HBa1c is 8.5 (last time it was 8.1), Fasting blood sugar is 131 (last time it was 139) and avg blood glucose is 190. He consumes alcohol occasionally (4-5 times monthly). Is it harmful for him? He takes medicines, he maintains diet routine property, exercises a lot. Still his HBA1c is abnormally high. What can be done???

Hba1c is high in the given history.. Kindly check his post lunch sugars also...looks like it is not controlled and contributing to high hba1c.. Following diet, doing exercise is absolutely needed...but at the same time alcohol intake should be restricted... Do the reports and consult online.. Depending upon the liver function test, kidney function tests...need to change/adjust the current medication accordingly... Consult online

Hi noted above history, Yes alcohol taking in moderate quantity twice a month.. may not be the issue... but check LFT, and USG abdomen to rule out fatty liver changes Coming to HbA1c is high, even after all diet and life style... that means.. the diabetes medicines dose must be increased... Kindly consult Diabetologist or endocrinologist
