Green undigested stool

My son is 3 months old, an exclusive bm baby. He got vaccinated four days ago. After that I noticed that the colour of his poo is green with mucus watery with undigested something like white balls. Before that he never did that. Also I started to give him bottle feeding ( pressed bm) recently ( As I will join from August). What is the reason for green poop? Baby looks active l.

Hello, I understand your concern Greenish, mucousy stools with occasional white curd-like particles are common in breastfed babies, especially around 3 months. These white particles are usually undigested milk fat. The baby is active and feeding well, which is a very good sign. Causes might include: Recent vaccination (4 days ago) can temporarily affect the gut. Change in feeding pattern (switching to expressed milk or bottle feeds) may alter stool appearance. If hygiene during bottle feeding isn’t optimal, it can lead to mild gut irritation.
Next Steps
Continue breastfeeding – either directly or expressed. Ensure proper bottle hygiene – sterilize all feeding equipment thoroughly if bottle feeding.

Green, mucousy stools with occasional white curd-like particles (undigested milk) can be common in breastfed infants, especially around 3 months. A recent vaccination, mild gut response, or changes in feeding pattern (like switching to expressed milk in a bottle) may temporarily alter stool color and consistency. If the baby is active and feeding well, it is usually not a cause for concern.
Next Steps
1. Continue exclusive breast milk (direct or expressed). 2. Stop bottle feeding if hygiene is not maintained. 3.Monitor for other symptoms like fever, persistent vomiting, poor weight gain, or blood in stools. 4. Keep an eye on stool pattern over the next few days,it often resolves on its own.
Health Tips
1.Ensure proper bottle sterilization to avoid gut infections. 2. Avoid overfeeding or frequent switching between foremilk and hindmilk, which may contribute to green stools. 3. If unusual stools persist beyond a week or worsen, consult me with a stool test .

Monitor for any diarrhoea. Stool colour change acceptable esp after vaccination If you have to use the bottle be careful with the bottle wash - should clean well, no soap left. Steam sterilise the bottle and nipple. Collect the EBM in sterilised bowl preferably. Clean your hands well/ sanitise them well before collection
