Front tooth crowning

2016-06-26 08:06:32
I have a chipped front left tooth for which I need crowning. My doctor is recommending a root canal before the crowning is done. Is RCT really necessary. OPG scan is attached

It seems to be a root canal case but the x-rays are not clear and I have not examined u clinically.  If there is infection then definitely go for it.  Take care and God bless.

Root canal treatment is required if there is any symptom of infection / if the nerve is expected to be exposed while preparing for the crown. If not a vital tooth can also have a crown without any problem for several years

Hi.. The doctor who has advised you has seen you clinically as well so it's better to go by his opinion.. Also, you haven't mentioned if you have any other symptoms of pain, sensitivity, any pus discharge or discolouration of tooth.. If in doubt take a second opinion but clinical examination is must.

If the tooth is discolored , or if you have pain in that tooth , or if your tooth has become non vital, or if its angulated/tilted, then RCT is needed..

In your case, rct is needed as apart from chipping your tooth seems to be out of arch also Having said that clinical examination is primary to come to a proper diagnosis

You did not tell what was the exact reason for chipping off of front tooth. If it was due to trauma or some accident etc then its better to get RCT done before capping otherwise just capping will do. Thanks
