Fly flew into my ear

2025-05-20 02:31:22
An insect (most probably a small fly) flew into my left ear. I tried to dodge it, but I still feel that some portion of it could be left as I can feel weird in my ear. What is the course of treatment?

Hi, I am Dr. Atul Kumar Nimawat MS ENT. If an insect has entered your ear, it’s important not to poke or try to remove it yourself, as this can cause injury to the ear canal or push it deeper.
Next Steps
Tilt your head to the side (affected ear up) and gently pour a few drops of warm (not hot) mineral oil, baby oil, or glycerin into the ear — this may help kill or float out the insect. Avoid using earbuds, pins, or fingers.
Health Tips
since you’re still feeling discomfort, it’s possible that parts of the insect remain inside. It’s best to visit an ENT specialist at the earliest for otoscopic examination and safe removal.
