Through that you can assess yourself own. 1) How this problem started ? if the answer is due to work or poor sleeping position or any weight over your head means it's regarding your muscle strain if the answer is i don't know or any sudden jerk mean it might be any lock or facet joint problem in you neck( To fix it you need to visit ortho doctor or Orthopedic physiotherapist ) 2) How long your having this problem and how severe it is ( depend on pain tolerance ) if the answer is past two three days or a week means it will be alright with in 8 to 12 days ( neither you take treatment or not ) If the answer is more than a week after that also the pain severity is increased means ( you need to visit ortho doctor or Orthopedic physiotherapist to get proper assessment and treatment ) 3) Third question is pain rating .      Mild, Moderate, Severe

There are multiple of reasons that cause pain  between shoulder and neck ie - Rotator cuff tear ,  Wroung Posture and sleeping position , You're occupation.. over exertion activities can cause or trigger the strains and sprains in that localised area. Stretching exercises & different techniques based on science of Physiotherapy can help you out in overcoming the pain be releasing the compressed nerve ( Pinched nerve ) if it's a radiating pain.
