Fasting with Kidney Stonee
I had a 6mm kidney stone taken out via ureteroscopy last year. I also had a CT scan, which told me I have other stoned in my body as well. The doctor advised me to stay hydrated and avoid oxalate rich food. However, my religious fasting month is coming up in which I am supposed to avoid drinking anything, including water and eating for 16 hours at a time. However, if it interferes with my health, then I can skip fasting. I was wondering if it acceptable for me to fast or not, assuming I cannot eat or drink anything for 16 hours a day?
Hello there..... Most stones that cause renal colic are small and pass out with the urine in a day or so. You should drink plenty of fluids to encourage a good flow of urine. Strong painkillers are often needed to ease the painuntil you pass the stone. No other treatment is usually needed.
Some stones that form and stick in the kidney do not cause symptoms or any harm. They can just be left if they are small.
