My father a dialysis patient, had an 9 months expired cough syrup Acrosil SF, 1 teaspoon instead of Acrosil LS as prescribe. He is having Azethral 500mg also due to his cold and cough been persisting from last 1 week. Just want some quick opinion on same and anything to observe particularly

Do not worry. Taking 1 teaspoon of Acrosil SF syrup that was expired by 9 months is unlikely to cause serious harm. The main issue with expired medicines is that they may become less effective, not usually toxic.

One teaspoon of expired Acrosil SF is unlikely to cause serious harm, but may be less effective. Taking SF instead of LS is not dangerous for a single dose. No major interaction with Azithral 500 mg, but watch for stomach upset, rash, or worsening cough/fever.
Advice: Stop the expired syrup, continue prescribed meds, monitor symptoms, and consult his nephrologist doctor for a safe cough syrup suitable for dialysis.
