Esophagus biopsy and endoscopy
Hello,
My father was not able to eat solid or semi solid food. Endoscopy and biopsy report is done for esophagus. In which a tumor is found in nests and singly scattered cells with moderately pleomorphic nuclei having coarse chromatic and moderate cytoplasm.
In impression advice:- its mentioned as poorly differentiated carcinoma.
In gross :- its mentioned as 5 tiny tissue pieces measuring 0.1 to 0.2 cm.
Could someone please suggest what we need to do further.

Hello Shekhar. The treatment for esophageal carcinoma depends on the type, stage and location of the tumor. So, prior to starting treatment, it is advisable to get a few additional investigations done which will help in deciding the treatment as well as be a guide for prognosis. First, IHC on the biopsy sample - to determine whether it is squamous or adeno type. Secondly, a staging PETCT to determine extent of disease and rule out any metastases.
