Hi, Brain is made up of lot of neurons. Neurons are special cells which can make small amount of electrical charge and send signal to other parts of body. Now Brain has different parts for controlling different functions and all these parts are connected to each other through connections. These connections carry electrical signals. So now you imagine your brain as large head-quarter with different departments connected with electrical wires for signal transfer. Now if some part of this whole network is damaged then there will be sort-circuit. This sort-circuit can be small or large. Now whenever this sort circuit will happen there will be more damage to wires, equipments etc. So it is important that no more sort circuit occurs. These sort circuit are similar to seizures(epilepsy) which your brother is having. Each time your brother suffers from epilepsy more damage occurs in his brain. Brain is very special organ - it needs time to repair itself. It needs atleast 5 yrs for brain to repair it's damaged part and if damage is large brain may not be able to repair itself in whole life.

Definitely not advisable to stop anticonvulsant at this point. Patient needs EEG and may be long term monitoring. Blood work. With liver enzymes platelet and depakote level. MRI brain with contrast to rule out mass lesion
