I also suffer from ear ache while in flight. Even after that the ear ache continues
I have consulted SENT specialist he said due to atmospheric pressure internal and outer layer of your ear get attached and doesn't get unattached..it's due to slightly bend nose bone. If bone nose gets straight through septoplasty this problem will resolve.
Another doctor says everyone has slightly bend nose from inside.

Deviated nasal septum is unlike to be cause for eustachian tube dysfunction which usually occurs secondary to common cold or air travel. Surgery may not help you much as deviation is very common in general population and does not require treatment most of the time. You need to do pressure equalization exercises during air travel
