Doubtful about pregnancy.

My periods is on and I am having severe cramps. I am doubtful that whether am pregnant or not. So if i use preganews to confirm , will it work ? And will the results be correct ? Is there any other options to check ? This is the 1st time am having such severe pain. Is this periods prob or sign of pregnancy ?
