Your nipple length has no correlation with your feeding ability. You have to put the child to breast every 3 to 4 hours or whenever baby cries for feed.  Proper latching is important. Most of the areola(black part around the nipple) should be in babies mouth. About your nipple getting flat you can use an empty syringe to bring it back to normal or use a nipple shield to prevent injuries to the nipple.
