Sometimes in Psychiatric practice, patients may have been prescribed either a large number of different types of medication or high doses of individual medication. This could be due to either severity of condition, patient distress or the doctor's preference. This may lead to some side effects effecting patients quality of life. Many times patient may have continued the same prescription for years without change. On seeking a second opinion, another Psychiatrist may talk about rationalising the doses to remove medication which may no longer be needed or adjust doses as per current mental state.
