Dog Is Licking Her Nipples & Itching
My female dog (7 years in age, unspayed) has been licking & itching herself alot around 2 weeks. Her nipples were a bit swollen and she recently had her periods and was being clingy after it. She hates a toy and she was now roaming around with it everywhere she went and was whining and staying indoors besides us alot. She is still very energetic but she is constantly licking her nipples. Her skin has darkened around her nipples and her nipple have become worse. Please suggest some medicine/remedy as we don't have vets nearby or in the meanwhile anything to lessen her symptoms.
Pseudopregnancy with mild mastitis can occur in dogs. To manage the condition, prevent licking by using an E-collar and remove all toys to reduce maternal stimulation. Apply a cold compress to the nipples for 5 minutes, 2–3 times a day, to help reduce swelling. If there is milk secretion, avoid stimulating the nipples, as this can increase milk production and prolong the condition. With these measures, it will usually reduce on its own within 2–3 days.
