Chronic acid reflux can damage the mucosal lining of lower esophagus ( food pipe) leading to a condition called Barrett's esophagus which can be a premalignant condition. However, the incidence is low and is usually common in Western countries and in elderly patients. You need lifestyle and dietary modifications to control your long standing acid reflux along with an endoscopy evaluation and your Gastroenterologist can guide you further accordingly
