Steroids in high doses are known to precipitate
diabetes. Whether or not steroid induced diabetes will be permanent or not is decided by many factors, such as initial response to medications, duration of diabetes, duration of steroid use, and level of insulin production by your own pancreas or the amount of damage has been done to the pancreas by high sugars.
You have responded well to low dose medications. At your age
HbA1C goal is less than 6.5. Until you get to this goal, medications should be continued. Then hormone tests to assess your pancreatic function for insulin production is recommended
At end of one year since starting treatment, based on your response and HbA1C and pancreatic function, it is possible to predict whether steroid induced diabetes will permanent or lifelong.
