Please understand that very few disorders are curable; most of them are treatable and manageable. Let me give you the example of
Diabetes, Asthma, and Hypertension. None of these disorders are really curable. But they can be managed and the patient can lead a normal or near normal life. So it is with Schizophrenia.
I understand that it is very distressing to manage with such a patient when symptoms are not fully under control. But please do not get disheatened. Modern psychiatry has many newer drugs in its armamentarium. It is only the question of a particular drug suiting the patient's symptoms and needs. This requires a bit of trial and error, and it may take some time for the psychiatrist to be able to hit on the right drug/combination of drugs/ and the dosage. Once this is achieved, then your mother would be more comfortable, and you too. Hence the importance of regular meetings with the psychiatrist. Your regular feedback of her symptoms and behaviour would help the psychiatrist decide on the right combination of drugs, and the dosage.
Have hope, there are many Schizophrenia patients who are doing reasonabley well with their job responsibilities and their family life. I'm sure with a little more effort and commitment on your(family) side, your mother too will do well.
I wish you all the very best.
