Ct scan mri scan

My mother has steel rod in her right hand , it is there for more than 20 years. She is skeptical taking ct scan and mri scan due to bad effects of radiations? In general is there any guideline on keeping gap between two scans for a person like my mom?

MRI may not be possible because of metal in the body. CT scan is possible. Consult the diagnostic set up.

CT is based on X Rays and MRI on magnetic rays. So no gap is required in between the two. CT is hazardous but MRI is relatively very safe( barring few exceptions). I would like to know, which part going to get scanned and why?
