One in ten people of the world wide population have CKD. If you understand the risk factors and ways to prevent it, you will have a better idea about the disease. In early stages, CKD doesn't produce any symptoms. The only way to diagnose early is to do a urine test for protein leak and check the blood creatinine levels once a year. Risk Factors for CKD which cannot be modified !!! Age Gender Ethnicity Genetic Low Birth weight/Preterm Urinary tract abnormalities Risk Factors for CKD which can be prevented/modified !!! Diabetes Hypertension Smoking Obesity High cholesterol High salt and protein intake Cardiovascular disease Auto-immune diseases Urinary tract infections Kidney Stone disease Lower socioeconomic status Pain killers Native medicines Occupational exposures How to prevent CKD ??? BP below 140/90 Diabetes under control (HbA1c around 7%) Stay in your target cholesterol range. Be compliant with the medicines as prescribed. Kidney-healthy diet. Eat foods lower in salt. Eat more fruits and vegetables. Physical activity 45 minutes a day. Healthy weight for height (BMI 18 to 23). Adequate sleep. Quit smoking/alcohol. Mental health is important  for overall well-being. (cope with stress and depression). Avoid exposures that harm the kidneys (Pain killers, Ayurveda, Siddha, Homeopathy, Unani, Dyes, Chemicals, etc) Hope you find this useful !
