Hello, I am Dr Romain Rajan, General Physician. Your case has been allotted to me.
I understand your concern. Your symptoms of blocked nose, sneezing, runny nose, throat irritation and mild headache are typical of a viral common cold or allergic cold. These infections usually settle in five to seven days with supportive treatment.
Advices
1 Inhale steam two to three times daily as it helps unblock the nose naturally.
2 Drink warm fluids like soup, warm water or herbal tea to soothe the throat.
3 Avoid cold foods, refrigerated drinks and dust exposure as they worsen symptoms.
What to Monitor
1 Increasing fever
2 Persistent chest congestion
3 Severe headache, facial pain or yellow thick mucus
Management
You may take the following safe medicines for relief
1 A non drowsy anti allergic tablet once daily for three to five days to reduce sneezing and runny nose
2 Paracetamol if you have headache or mild fever
3 A saline nasal spray two to three times a day to clear the nasal blockage
4 A soothing cough syrup if throat irritation increases
These medicines help your symptoms settle faster. Most viral colds do not require antibiotics.
If symptoms persist beyond a week or worsen, we may need to check for sinus infection or allergic rhinitis. After knowing your age, medical history and current medicines, I can guide you with exact names and doses.
