Hello there.
I can understand your concern.
I do not agree with you.
First of all coats' disease was your diagnosis and you waited till it progressed to stage 4 you say to consult a opthalmologist.
Why was the delay may I ask?
You are to be blamed for the blindness of the child.
However, once retinal detachment has occurred, a visual recovery is next to impossible and also glaucoma had developed that means the intraocular pressure was rising which also means that his situation was worsening.
In this case, laser therapy and cryotherapy to save the eye by ablating the vessels is not a choice and we are left with enucleation as the last option.
Also what the doctors said was right.
No doctor can force you to do something, all procedures are done after a informed and signed consent itself. If you didn't want any procedure to be done, you could have stepped back. No use blaming the doctors for doing the right thing. Rather blame yourself for delaying and causing loss of one eye.
The disease starts with gradual decrease in vision, why didn't you take regular visits to the opthalmologist I do not understand. Also, retinoblastoma and Coates disease have similar presentation, and in any case such a advanced disease calls for enucleation itself.
So there is nothing that could have been done otherwise.
Best regards.
Dr. Anil Kumar Jain.
