Chest pain while working out

I started a workout routine yesterday. I am 5'6 190lbs. 34 year old male, smoked for over 10 years and quit about 2 years ago. Today while doing some strenuous exercise i began to feel a sharp chest pain located an inch to the left of the center of my chest. Basically felt like right where my heart would be. I stopped exercising and it went away
