Blood Sugar Level (Random) above 360

2021-05-08 10:53:47
Hi Sir/Ma'am, I just wanted to ask you that, My father was tested covid positive on 01/05/2021. And he is taking covid medication from 27/05/2021. Now he is back to healthy with little cough. His sugar level was 360 during medication as his course included a steroid(Medrol something) He is Diabetic from 15 years and had a Angioplasty (1 stent) a year ago. So my questions are: 1. Should I get his CT scan done as his RT-PCR was Positive to know the lungs Damage? 2. How much long do I have to continue his medication? 3. For how long he will be at risk with the health?

1) If spo2 is above 90% and no any severe symptoms of breathing difficulty, no need of CT exposure. 2) Steroid is tapered and wait for the last dose . Other medications like antibiotics can be extenddd for 14 days (initially for 5days given) if symptoms persist, otherwise it will be stopped after 5-7 days VitaMins should be extended for 15-20days period 3) 15 days from the day of diagnosis is the most crucial period. Keep monitoring sugar level and keep it under control by increased dose of anti diabetic medications until steroid is being stopped.

1. Ideally he needs a physician consultation for few weeks. 2. He should stop Medrol gradually. Half the dose for one week and further half next week. 3. Sugar needs to be monitored at home and manage with medicines so that it doesnt reach higher levels. Medcines can then be changed later.

There is no need of CT scan as he is doing well.. Medrol shoots up sugars.. Stopping it will depend on how long you have been taking and we have to stop gradually..
