Anxiety medication

I'm going through a period of stress, which had started giving me anxiety, to the point where I wake up every morning with a racing heart, and find it difficult to go to sleep without being anxious. Are there any over the counter medication, I can take to reduce my anxiety, like diphenhydramine?

This must be a very distressing time in your life. From what I can tell, you wake up in an anxious state after going through a tough time. You might wake up to an uneasiness, racing heart, palpitations, and a general feeling that all is not okay. It may even feel like you won't ever feel normal again. It is important to explore why that situation caused such an anxious reaction in your life. Moreover, I recommend you consult a psychiatrist if you think medication is necessary.
Next Steps
Seek counselling. Consult a Psychiatrist.

Diphenhydramine is a antihistamine medicine . It does not have anxiolytic property. For that you need to consult a psychiatrist. All anxiolytic are addictive when person starts abusing himself or herself. Better it should be taken under supervision. For your problem you consult psychiatrist and clinical psychologist both. Otherwise you will suffer longer.

Hi, your symptoms appear to be typically anxiety disorder symptoms. Have you considered consulting a psychologist for relaxation therapy and anxiety therapy before going for medication?
