Hello! We're in Australia. My mom slipped from the stairs and fractured her ankle minimally. The doctors here have recommended surgery (inserting steel plates and screws). Currently, her leg is secured with a bandage till knee. My questions are- Does she require surgery? She's 62. Are there any potential risks that we need to consider? Will she have any walking-related problems in the future? Please advise. Your advice will help us make the right decision. I have attached the report findings here. Thanks!

Hello, greetings from Kolkata. As per her reports she may have a minimally displaced distal fibula and posterior malleolus  fracture. These types of fractures have a tendency to make the ankle joint unstable. Thus kindly share the xray as well. If the fracture is stable it can be managed by a plaster cast/slab.

Keep the limb elevated to reduce swelling. Apply cold packs.

Needed XRAY, we have to see how much percentage of posterior malleolus fractured intra articular... And fibula fracture means we have to see whether syndesmotic joint involved or not.
