Allergic cough

Hello doctor my son 3yrs 11months is always suffering from cough problem, from one month is on different syrups like brozeet, macberry n relent n montair, yesterday when we visited the doctor, he prescribed macphyllim syrup along with montair, can i no wat for this macphyllim syrup is prescribed, doctor says it's allergic cough always, will using so many syrups for cough cause any harm to the child. I want to no why this macphyllim syrup is prescribed.
