the meaning of cyl.is that there are different numbers at different angles of a lens.usually in routine examinations  emphasis  is on 6/6.if attained  by spherical and there is no strain ,then  we prescribe it . but  when  we test with the help of autoref  ,this  invariably  give  little or more cylinder  number. though  while prescribing  even the little amount of cyl is considered to be more  accurate. but  it's  always  better  to find out the comfort  levels  with or without  cyl by subjective testing .because for patients  comfort is more  important  than accuracy. if you have prescribed an accurate  number  and patient is not comfortable  with  it then it is useless  for him. refraction  is not  just a mathematical  calculation, it's an art.

Cylinder and axis in specs prescription means that child's eye not exactly spherical so needs power in a particular direction (axis ) It is ok to have some cylinder. It is abnormal if it more than 3.0 D or changes rapidly with time Then some more special tests are required to rule out other diseases of the eye
