Most common cause of jaundice in newborn is physiological jaundice. It will go on its own. When a newborn gets jaundice we have to differentiate whether it is physiological or pathological. In case of physiological jaundice no need to worry. But pathological jaundice, we have to find out the cause and treat it. Broadly it is of two types. Conjugated and Unconjugated hyperbilirubinemia. Unconjugated variety requires phototherapy or if severe needs exchange transfusion (exchange of blood). This variety can cause brain damage if not treated properly. In conjugated variety, we have to find out the cause and supplement vitamins A,D,E and K. Some times surgery will be required.
