Vitamin D is just 30

My Vitamin D is very low (30)because of which the bones and knee joint makes cracking noise whenever I sit. What can I do for increasing Vit D without any side effects as I took Vitamin D for 1 month but it didn't help and Calcium damages liver. What can I do. Need help in detail

take vit d once a week for total of 2 months and then continue it once a month further on for 4 months
