Hi,
Thanks for asking .
Let me relieve your anxiety that hair fall after postpartum period especially during breastfeeding is very common.
It could be because of several reasons hormone inbalance , raised
prolactin levels, Probably postpartum, low
thyroid or nutritional deficiency.
Specially when you are feeding your child, then your calorie requirement increases this also decreases the amount of iron stores in the body. Above all stress place a very important role in the time period after delivery and it is extremely high in some cases.
This can further exacerbate the hair loss.
One more thing you have to remember that sometimes after the delivery and during the breastfeeding period the hair cycle coincides with the natural hair fall period.
This is usually followed by new hair growth within few months.
So now coming back to your problem.
Please do not stress.
Please eat healthy.
Please add more nuts to your diet.
I understand sleep cycle may be disturbed when you have a newborn and that itself can be stressful.
So try to get help from the family members so you can get adequate sleep.
If you are still in doubt visit your local physician get some lab test. Especially check for thyroid and anaemia, fix those problems if they are obvious and you won’t need any biotin supplements.
I am not against the biotin supplements. However the use of Biotin in hair loss is overrated and it does not work in all the cases.
So please get a medical evaluation first before taking biotin by yourself.
This conversation is for pure awareness purposes, please do not consider this as a consultation. If you would like to discuss more, you can book a teleconsult with me and I will be happy to evaluate further and discuss the management till then relax and focus on your diet. Sleep and distress yourself remember treat food as your medicine thank you.
Hope this helps you
Regards
Dr HS Chauhan.
