Us nicotes safe for cancer patient

My father is suspected as a cancer patient. He has a tumor around bronchus. This has been formed due to smoking and some sort of water started forming around his heart. Doctor has suggested not to smoke to prevent serious outcomes. I want to try if nicotex can help but i am not sure if it is safe for patients like him or not. Please suggest me if I should give nicotext to him or not!!
