Hello Respected Doctors, I had been consuming pan masala with zarda since 2020(left it a couple of months ago) and smoking cigarettes since 2017 (max 3 - 4 piece per day). I noticed some wounds in my buccal mucosa in late September 2022. The wounds healed but these patches were constant. Now they are slowly healing but not vanishing(2 months now). I visited my dentist two months ago and he prescribed me SM Fibro, Becosules Z and Kenacort Oral Paste. The only thing I am worried about is that what is it? And why it is healing so slow? and is it cancer? I have attached some pictures, kindly take a look. (It is present on both sides of buccal mucosa)

You are suffering from Oral Submucosal Fibrosis. Oral submucous fibrosis (OSF) is characterized by abnormal collagen deposition. It is a precancerous disorder and transforms into a malignant tumor in 1.5–15% of all cases. Symptoms include submucous fibrosis, ulceration, xerostomia, a burning sensation, and restricted mouth opening.
Next Steps
Management includes Cessation of habit like Pan, areca nut, smoking, alcohol. Supplementary care with Vitamin. Antioxidants like SM fibro. Steroid therapy, placental extracts, and chymotrypsin. Hyaluronidase. Pentoxifylline. Interferon-gamma.
