Local anesthesia means drug will b given by injection surrounding ear.. Because of that the nerves supplying the ear will become anesthetised n patient doesn't feel any kind of pain while operating.. Patient looses pain sensations in ear temporarily.. As the drug is given only to ear all other body organs have their senses n thus patient will b conscious..
General anesthesia means patient looses control over his body.. He can't breathe on his own as well bcoz of drugs.. He will b totally unconscious.. During that time anesthetist will mechanically supply oxygen etc to patients body.. Once surgery is over and anesthetic drugs efficacy is gone again patients body comes under his control..
Whenever any surgery if possible to get it done under local anesthesia, always pls prefer local anesthesia which is much safer and less complicated compared to general anesthesia..
Tympanoplasty surgery can b happily done under local anesthesia .. Hope this is helpful
