I've been on Topamax to treat Bipolar I for approximately five weeks, and it's been very beneficial in stabilizing my moods. However, I've found that my short term memory has essentially disappeared, my thought process has slowed down, my hair is falling out, and that I'm experiencing sensory distortion and a mind-body disconnect. I was really happy when I found out about Topamax because I want to stay away from the more intense and mind numbing mood stabilizers, and it's the only mood stabilizer other than Lamictal, which I've been on and didn't find helpful, that doesn't cause weight gain. I've experienced severe body image issues my entire life, and going on a medication that'd make me gain 20 pounds at the very least that I wouldn't be able to lose would have a very negative effect on my mental health. Do you have any recommendations for medications or medication combinations?
