Thinning hair from head crown

I have been loosing lost of hair from the crown of my head since 4 yes. Previously my hair was very thick. Now I'm loosing hair a little and scalp is visible. I have curly hair. I do not know if medicines taken will help or not. I want to exactly know the reason of this. I have been doing home treatments like applying onion juice, sometimes castor oil. My nails are good.
