They diagnose me with foot drop

I am 35 years old, my right foot hangs with my toes pointing down. my toes scrape the ground while walking requiring me to lift my leg higher than normal when walking. I don't have any known trauma, this problem developed after I passed out from a drinking spree 1 month ago. On examination,they say I have decreased sensation in the foot associated with weakness of leg muscles. why am i experiencing foot drop
