If mucocele of appendix is his diagnosis then u have to make sure a Contrast enhanced CT scan of the abdomen , to rule out any features of malignancy and u should also get other tumor markers like CA-125, CA-19.9 & CEA.
Appendicitis or mucocele of appendix in elderly pt more than 45 u should always rule out Malignancy , since u said patient is your father.
If CT is clear u can definitely go with surgery laparoscopic better than open. Depend on surgeons expertise if he is well versed with open then prefer open technique.
As everyone said these are routine investigations. Private sector uses fancy names.
