Swollen Tonsil on one side

I have swollen tonsils without any other discomfort or symptom for past 3 days. Doc prescribed Ceftum 500 which has not helped, so he has prescribed 5 day course of Augmentin 625. Can the swollen tonsil be due to viral and not bacterial infection. How long does it take to cure tonsillitis usually. I am a 28yr old male.

If you does not have any symptoms of tonsillitis such as throat pain, difficulty in swallowing, fever then you need not worry about size of the tonsils. Tonsil size varies from person to person
