Stopping/reducing dosage of Telmisartan

Hello, I'm 25/M. I have been diagnosed with Hypertension(160/100) two years back. My general health checkup and lipid profile seems absolutely normal. Doctor suggested telmisartan 40mg. I have been takin the tablets at irregular intervals(only when my BP spikes up) for past two years. 6 months back I consulted a doctor & he advised me to take the tablet regularly. So took it for three months. Then discontinued it completely for past three months. My BP was  absolutely normal(125/80) in this 3 months. Now some day the BP spikes up and if I take telmisartan 40mg once, my BP gets normal the next day and it remains same for 4 days to 1 week. Even if I take the tablet daily, my BP doesn't go low and remains normal. Should I take the tablet daily ? Or should I reduce my dosage ? Or should I improvise something for complete withdrawal of medicine ? I don't want to take the tablets unnecessarily ! Kindly suggest me further !! Thanks in advance.
