Slightly high SGPT

Hi, I got diagnosed with an enlarged liver (span 16.1 cm) with fatty infiltration 1.5 months back. The doc just asked me to regulate my lifestyle. Since then I have had any non-veg, oil, potato or alcohol. After a 1 month detox I got a liver function blood test done. My SGPT came as 56(normal upto 40). Apart from this all other enzymes GGTP , SGOT are within range. Does this indicate something bad?. When can I resume my earlier life with the 1 alcohol day a week and some meat.

High SGPT is a single value or you had a normal test result previously. Every human responds variably to alcohol intake. Some gulp down gallons without ill effects but some get hit even by small quantities. If your liver is showing damage (high SGPT) then definitely you should not resume drinking ever. After following the current detox for three months I would recommend repeat LFT (Liver function tests). Ideally SGPT should normalise. If it has not then you will need to be investigated further for other causes of elevated SGPT.
